Belico Chess  

A military action with a simple vainglorious purpose provokes a stronger military reaction still more vainglorious. Once again, the political/military concepts overcome the humanitarian ones and, again, it is irresponsibly played with human lives. 

THE WORKS

ARGENTINIAN CHECK - Four Argentinian helmets surround an English one, in a representation of the invasion of the Malvinas/Falklands islands by Argentina. Malvinas are divided by the board, in order to show that during the battle they do  not have "owner." 

ENGLISH CHECK - Twelve English helmets surround the four Argentinians, in a representation of the English naval fleet before the Argentinian forces. Obviously, the map of Malvinas/Falklands continues divided. 

CHECKMATE - Malvinas/Falklands are in the center of the board, in other words, now they already have owner. On the board, there are three glasses labeled Argentinian blood and three glasses labeled English blood representing the human lives harvested uselessly. In the center of the board, there is a seventh empty and opened glass, which represents the future: Will blood run over again?

COMPONENTS OF THE WORKS 

- Three chess boards (one for each picture). 
- Several half of lemon rinds, conveniently prepared in order to avoid the rottenness, fungus, etc. These rinds are painted with the Argentinian and the English flags, representing soldiers' helmets and pieces of a chess game. 
- Sealed glasses, containing red paint, representing containers with soldiers' blood.
