In this article I try to demonstrate the importance of women's role in society through time, addressing their professional and, consequently, social performance through the visual arts, specifically in the exercise of painting. It is surprising to note that, in general, art history books do not include women's performance until at least the first half of the 19th century. However, it is necessary to consider that, if from the second half of the 19th century their participation becomes evident, this is due to the struggle undertaken by them in search of social justice, professional recognition, civil rights and gender equality.
