Technological Mousetrap II

2021

Technique: Oil + objects* Dimensions: 24,3 x 35 cm  (with frame: 42 x 52) Year: 2021

*Objects: Printed circuit board, electronic board, galvanized wire, 46 integrated electronics chips and 820 electronic micro switch push buttons.

This work addresses the sense of trap that humanity has created for itself due to the mistakes caused by relating to the planet in an unbalanced way. The electronic component inserted inside the mousetrap and which is analogous to the model of the coronavirus was placed next to the Earth to explain the threat of the potential risks that we face as a species. The mousetrap was placed on a golden electronic board in allusion to the illusion created by contemporary technological artifices. The electronic chips that surround the plate form a fence that separates humanity from a supposed golden dream. The mini electronic buttons surrounding the golden electronic board represent the billions of human beings that occupy the planet. They are isolated from reality by the virtual sense of control over nature. Due to its three-dimensional volume, the frame reinforces the feeling of isolation caused by the pandemic. Like other components of the painting, it had been discarded and was presented to me for a possible reuse that was configured in this work.
